Day 2 (6/3/11)

It’s hard to believe that another day of PDO (Pre-Departure Orientation) is over. Today we covered the history of CMF and then had a session on discovering our personalities as well as the other interns’. We used the DISC test to see what personalities those in our team had. The 4 letters stand for the following: Dominant, Influencing, Steadiness, and Compliance. After taking the test I found that I was a C with S close behind. Following this we were asked to make a presentation that told the other personality types how best to interact with our personality. We decided to put on a skit and it went quite well.
Following this we learned about what is expected of us on the field as far as being accountable for our actions and helping others. Next we were told about staying sexually pure on the field and warned of the temptations we are likely to face while we are away. The last informational session included how to properly stay in contact with our supporters to let them know how grateful we are and to keep them updated.
The last group activity we took part in today was a game called “Barnga”. This was a card game in which people at each table are given instructions on how to play their card game and are told to start playing. The catch is that the game must played in silence and some tables have different rules than others. Once you win at one table or lose at a table you must move to a different table. This caused confusion as no one could talk so that they could explain the official rules of the table. We learned through this activity that we must adapt to the new culture that we are going to and that communication will be difficult.
One of the last things I did today was to meet with my prayer partner, Cameron. We talked for about 20 minutes about our prayer needs and got to know each other better. He’s going to Indonesia so I’m hoping to email him this summer so we can stay in touch with how things are going across seas.
